1:1 MSW Personal Statement Planning Session

Need help figuring out what to write in your personal statement?

A 1:1 planning session gives you dedicated time with an Application Advisor to brainstorm your ideas, organize your experiences, and create a clear plan for answering your application prompts.

This is a great option if you:

  • Aren’t sure how to start your personal statement
  • Have ideas but need help organizing them
  • Want help deciding which experiences or examples to include
  • Are struggling to connect your experiences to your goals in social work
  • Have a challenging prompt and aren’t sure how to approach it
  • Want to talk through a concern such as a lower GPA, career change, limited experience, or previous rejection

What to Expect

During your session, your advisor can help you:

  • Break down your application prompts and identify what each question is asking
  • Map your experiences, skills, insights, and goals to each prompt
  • Brainstorm examples and ideas to strengthen your responses
  • Identify a clear direction or throughline for your personal statement
  • Decide what to prioritize when you have limited space
  • Answer questions about your personal statement or application

Come prepared with your application prompts and any notes, drafts, or ideas you already have.

Already Have a Draft?

A planning session is best for brainstorming, strategy, and working through specific questions.

If you already have a complete personal statement and want detailed feedback throughout your draft, we recommend our Personal Statement Editing service instead.

You are still welcome to bring sections of your draft or specific writing questions to your consultation.
